SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. – A season chocked full of impressive races for Gunner Ramey continued over the holiday weekend at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex, as the burgeoning driver captured his third victory of the season on Friday night. After the win, the second in a six-day span, Ramey tried something new. With the restrictor division off the schedule for Saturday, he made the first A-Class start of his young career, earning a 12th place finish in the event.

Friday night racing kicked the weekend off with the regularly scheduled program at the Sweet Springs, Mo. sixth-mile track. Ramey was one of 15 drivers signing in in for the restrictor class; a pair of heat races included the Sedalia, Mo. driver starting outside the front row of heat one. Ramey quickly set sail on the start and won the 10-lap preliminary event by a sizable margin.

Inverted points average set the lineup, so the high-performing Ramey would be coming from near the tail end of the field, tenth on the grid. The youngster instantly started moving his way forward at the drop of the green, and it was soon apparent that another finish near the front was likely. The Impact Signs No. 28 team exhibited their mastery of the circuit, collecting the win in convincing fashion. However, the driver Ramey is chasing in the points race, Luke Howard, was able to nab second to minimize his losses, with Howard still maintaining an honest lead coming out of the event.

Ramey’s next challenge came at the “John Hinck Memorial” on Saturday, removing the carburetor restrictor plates to race with in A-Class for the first time at the speedway. Starting outside pole again for his heat race, Ramey turned ten clean laps and came under the checkered in sixth.

The lineup on this night, a heads-up style format, put Ramey starting 16th, as the sixth place finisher in the first of three heats. The extra power from the unrestricted air intake allowed him to push his Pace/Honda machine higher and closer to the outside wall than ever before. Ramey tested those waters several times, and raced on both the low and high side throughout the event. Making passes and avoiding crashes helped him advance four positions by the end of the race to collect a 12th place finish. Albeit Ramey’s first finish outside the top-ten this season, the results were impressive given the change of pace.

Ramey would like to thank Impact Signs Awnings & Wraps, Sure Coat Powdercoating, Rob Sneed Shorthorns, McKinney Construction, Ramey Dirtworks, Southwest Storage, 8760 Service Group, Rod End Supply, Factory Kahne Midwest, MYCHRONTOM, and Quick Engineering, as well as his family and the Renfro, Houston, and Cornell families for their continued support.

Ramey is next scheduled to compete on July 11 at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Mo. in the No. 28 600cc micro sprint entry.
