Hulsey Hammers Out Runner-Up at Sweet Springs

SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. – An up-and-down season for a Lone Jack, Mo. driver has been more fruitful as of late. A slump of sorts following back-to-back wins in early July has been pushed aside by four consecutive finishes of seventh or better. A second-place finish at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex bolstered that streak on Saturday evening.
A field of 26 strong signed in for competition in the stock division at the west-central Missouri oval. In the first of three heat races, Hulsey picked up two positions from his fifth starting spot to finish third.
With cars aligned for the 30-lap feature event by a full invert on point average, Hulsey started from 12th. The youngster wasted very little time to start his move forward, and found himself barging into the top five with just six laps complete. The Yamaha-powered No. 88G roared around the lightning quick track and took three laps apiece to pick off fourth and then third by lap 12. After commandeering the second spot with seven to go, the chase was on to run down fourth-starting Quinn Jones for the lead. Hulsey was gaining on Jones, but not quick enough. Hulsey found new life when a caution, just as the white flag waved, slowed the pace and set up a green-white-checkered finish. Regardless, Jones made off with a substantial lead on the restart and Hulsey came home in second.

Hulsey is next scheduled to compete on September 5 at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Mo. in the No. 88G 600cc micro sprint entry.
