LONE JACK, Mo. – After moving up from restricted to A-Class micros late last year, Garrett Hulsey’s 2015 schedule consisted mostly of points racing at Sweet Springs (Mo.) Motorsports Complex on Saturday nights. En route to fifth place in the final point standings, Hulsey captured two wins as well as 11 additional top-ten finishes in his 21 races there.

Starting the year off with a fourth-place finish was just what Hulsey was looking for. However, the next few events didn’t go as smoothly. Finishing 15th on May 1 came before a double feature night due to a rainout. That event, on June 6, Hulsey encountered some bad luck and ultimately took DNFs in each feature. After that, his results turned around, with two consecutive fifth-place runs to conclude June.

Hulsey’s first two races in July got even better, as he rallied from eighth on the grid on both of those nights to his first victories in A-Class. Finishing eighth on July 18 and sixth one week later helped bolster his position as a possible contender for the season championship.

To begin August, Hulsey made his only foray from Sweet Springs, an appearance with the POWRi Outlaw Micro Series at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. The Arnie Knepper Memorial had 39 micros in the pits, but Hulsey persevered and made his way into the main event, where he finished 20th. The next five weekends of racing at Sweet Springs all resulted in top-ten runs for the Lone Jack, Mo. racer, including a fifth-place finish on August 8 and a runner-up effort on August 29.

Beginning on September 12, Hulsey hit a rough patch. Failing to finish that night, Hulsey finished outside the top-ten in the next two races, and another DNF closed out the regular season. Hulsey’s strong finishes throughout the summer limited the damage, however, and he earned fifth place overall in A-Class points, while also finishing second in the division’s Rookie of the Year chase.

The non-points Show-Me Showdown would conclude the season, where Hulsey has had success in the past with third-place results each of the past two years in the restrictor class. The new division would be tougher with a total of 41 cars signing in, but Hulsey’s seventh-quick effort in qualifying and strong heat race finish put him in line for a front row starting spot in the Thursday night preliminary feature. As the track began to change, Hulsey’s machine started to slip backwards, and came home tenth. Starting in the same spot in Saturday’s A-Main, more of the same occurred, and Hulsey rounded out his season with a 16th-place finish.

Hulsey would like to thank Nathan Benson Motorsports, Mike Schure at Schure Built Suspensions, Richard and Stanley Kreisel at AdvanTec Dyno Service, and Dave Byers at DDI Fab, as well as his family and fans for their continued support.

2015 Stats

22 races, 22 features, 2 wins, 3 podiums, 7 top fives, 13 top tens, 4 DNFs
